Polar Bears

The Wēta reading group are reading a book called "Spying on Animals". One of the animals mentioned is polar bears. Joel found some interesting facts from his research last night;

• Polar Bears mainly eat seals.
• Polar Bear's skin, noses and tongues are black.
• The hair of a Polar Bear is hollow.

We wondered why they have hollow hairs. Click on the image below to find out the answer to this and any other questions you might have.

Corey wrote some other interesting facts about the animals in our book this week.

• Polar bears fur looks white but it is actually see through.
• polar bears are the largest meat eaters that live on land.
• Polar bears have 42 teeth.
• Tiger sharks live all over the world.
• Tiger sharks can grow up to 4.9m
• Female tiger sharks are bigger than the males.
• Tiger sharks love to eat everything and there was even one found with a tyre in its tummy.

That tyre can't have been very good for it. We need to stop polluting our seas with rubbish that the animals confuse for food.

Great work boys. What are you going to find out about seals tonight?
